On December 17th, we had the 10th Annual Notre Dame English Contest in ND Hall. It was spectacular to see so many children from Notre Dame and other schools in Kyoto and Shiga go up on that big stage and speak English into the big microphones.

Some children told stories, some did little plays and others told about their original experiences.

This year, not only did some of the regular ND students participate, but also the 2nd graders who join in After School English (ASE) competed. It was such a proud moment when several of them and our regular students got prizes for their English! I am very thankful for all of the students who tried so hard and to Notre Dame, because we can have ASE and the NDEC. Thank you also to the other schools who participated and to all the parents who worked so hard with their children at home. Each student should be very proud of what they did. They spoke English in front of so many people, even though they may have been nervous. I know they can take on more challenges and do great things, so I hope I can help them to be their best!

12月17日、10回目のノートルダムイングリッシュコンテスト（NDEC）がNDホールでおこなわれました。本校をはじめとして、京都・滋賀からのたくさんの子どもたちがホールの大きな舞台に上がり、マイクに向かって英語を話すのはとても見ごたえがありました。
物語を発表する子もいれば、寸劇をする子あり、そしてほかの子どもたちは、自分たちの体験を話してくれました。
今年は、本校児童に加え、アフタースクールイングリッシュ（ASE）に参加している２年生の子どもたちもコンテストに出ました。その子たちや、本校児童が賞をもらった時はとても誇らしく感じました。一生懸命がんばった子どもたち全員に感謝したいです。NDECを催したノートルダム学院小学校にも感謝します。また、参加してくれたほかの学校や、家で指導をしてくださった保護者の皆様にもお礼を申し上げます。不安でいっぱいだったはずなのに、たくさんの方々の前で英語を話すことができ、子どもたち一人ひとりは自分を誇らしげに思っていることでしょう。これからもチャレンジを続け、素晴らしい結果を出してくれるでしょう。私もそのために最大の応援をしたいと願っています。
