Every year many kindergartners join the Saturday Kids English Program.
It's a fun program in which young children are introduced to English and do arts and crafts in English. 

  People often ask me if they can understand and speak in English. Of course every child is different and it is not always obvious to see who truly understands.  However, a mother told me a great story about her little boy and how he tried to use English.  There were some tourists and he actually greeted them and had a mini conversation..in English!   Hooray!!   I was so happy to hear that he took the initiative tried to use the basic phrases he had learned.

  One of the goals of the English Department is let children say what they really want to say. I believe this small boy made a huge step.  No matter how big or small, these are the kinds of things that make teaching such a joy.

サタデーキッズイングリッシュ

毎年たくさんの園児がサタデーキッズイングリッシュのプログラムに参加します。いろんなクラフトやアートを通じて楽しみながら英語に触れることができるこのプログラムは、小さな子どもたちにピッタリです。
 
よく、あんな小さい子どもたちに英語がわかるの？話せるの？と聞かれます。答えはその子その子によって様々です。そして、本当にその子がどこまでわかっているのかを知るのは難しいです。
あるお母さんから、サタデーキッズに通っているお子さんが観光客に英語で話しかけて簡単な会話をしたと聞き、とても嬉しく思いました。その子は誰に言われたわけでもなく、自分で習ったことを使ってみようと思ったのです。
 
英語科全体の目標のひとつに、言いたいことが言えるようになる、というのがあります。この男の子は、すでに第一歩を踏み出しました。大人でも子どもでも、自分が言いたいことを英語で表現できるようになってもらえることが教える者にとって何よりの喜びなのです。
